SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for leading the Company's day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the integrity of financial records, supervising the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, and supporting timely and accurate financial reporting. This role is responsible for managing the month-end close process, maintaining the General Ledger, performing account reconciliations, and supporting budgeting, audit, taxation, and compliance activities.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & General Ledger

  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close process.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaids, amortization, and adjusting entries.
  • Maintain the General Ledger and Chart of Accounts.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate significant variances.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS/ASPE and company accounting policies.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Accountants.
  • Review AP and AR reconciliations before submission.
  • Monitor daily accounting activities and ensure deadlines are achieved.
  • Assist with staff development and performance management.

Month-End Close

  • Coordinate the month-end close calendar.
  • Review sub-ledger reconciliations.
  • Prepare month-end working papers.
  • Ensure all accounts are reconciled and supported.

Budgeting & FP&A Support

  • Assist the Manager Finance with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Prepare budget-to-actual variance analysis.
  • Support cash flow forecasting and financial analysis.

Compliance & Audit

  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with income tax and sales tax filings.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits.

Process Improvement

  • Improve accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Support ERP implementation and automation initiatives.
  • Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
  • CA Finalist / ACCA qualified with articles.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience supervising accounting staff.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS/ASPE.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or QuickBooks Advanced.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Month-end close completed within 5 business days
  • 100% balance sheet reconciliations completed monthly
  • Zero material audit adjustments
  • No overdue balance sheet reconciliations
  • Financial statements issued accurately and on time
  • AP and AR teams meeting their operational KPIs
  • At least 2–3 accounting process improvements implemented each year
  • Strong compliance with IFRS/ASPE, internal policies, and statutory reporting requirements
